Churra Mirandesa
This Churra Mirandesa wool, dyed with Madder root, is my passion at the moment. I guess you could say I’m in a red phase - all roads seam to lead there. I started with 750g of raw wool. I washed it little by little (I don't have large enough containers and it never crossed my mind to buy some) removing the excess grease and some of the impurities it came with. After admiring the length of the fiber and being proud of the wash, I decided white wasn't enough.
I mordanted the wool and prepared a already used bath of Madder. I dyed it without continuous heat because, again, I don't have pans big enough and buying wasn't in my plans.
But the color was wonderful! It's a mix between pink, salmon and red. A warm but light color — just the way I like it.
After dyeing, I opened up the fibers and carded them together, which also helped to release the rest of dust and dirt that was still on the wool. After that, finally, I spun it.
The process leading up to this yarn is captivating me enough, maybe that’s why I still don’t feel like putting it to use. But I’ll do it soon, perhaps...
